World Cup Showjumper James Arkins has made a name for himself in Australia, and is now over competing in the US with his two stallions, Eurostar and Joevaro. James and Eurostar recently jumped double clear for Australia in the CSIO5* Nations Cup of Canada, and has been selected onto the Australian team for the World Championships in Herning Denmark later this year. James has been using the Activo-Med Therapy System for over 6 years and chose it over other products due to its unique combination of massage and PEMF as well as the different programs and sequences that the system comes with.
“I love to use the [Activo-Med Therapy System] rug as a pre workout as well as a post workout. I find it’s really good for warming the horses up, as well as for recovery after a workout. The Activo Med Therapy System comes pre-programmed with both Programs and Sequences. A Program contains all the settings for the treatment, and a Sequence is a series of Programs, which automatically run one after the other. Both Programs and Sequences can be fully customised to suit your horses needs. When James is at a show, he uses a range of different Sequences depending on the horse’s needs and at what point in the show they’re at.
We asked James what programs he will use at a show, “It depends on what you need, I’m here competing at Spruce Meadows for a couple of weeks so I’ll use S01 which is a great treatment for getting the horses feeling good and fresh, and adding a bit of energy which we need at shows.
Sometimes I’ll use S04 which is a really good recovery treatment. It’s a longer treatment and it’s great for getting the horse feeling good after a big workout such as in the middle of a show and you’ve got a bit of time off and you just want to give the horse a really good recovery and pick-me-up.”
For horses that are a bit hotter, James will use a different warm-up treatment. “I also use S03 as a warm-up for those horses that don’t need the extra energy from S01, but gets them feeling really loose and ready to jump.”
The Sequences that the Activo-Med Therapy System come with cover a wide range of applications, such as a general pre-warmup (S01), a pre-warmup up for tense or nervous horses (S02), a general post training recovery (S03), a regenerate/prevent/rehabilitation hour long treatment (S04), and much more. These Sequences and Programs can also be fully customised to treat any specific issues.
