Walking the course at Burghley
Couldn’t be there in person? No worries, take a visual walk of the course with me…let’s go!
**Disclaimer** I’m not an eventer, so if you’re after a more technical course walk then Lucinda Green did one that is probably broadcast on the Burghley website. If you want to look at photos of jumps with some odd commentary, then continue on.
Did you know that after the Olympics selected jumps are retained and used at large events around the world? The first jump of the course is one of those.
Another Burghley House shot for good measure…
Discovery Valley caught a lot of combinations out…
Is it just me or are these mannequins a little creepy? I can imagine them waking up at night, wandering around and turning up in different places in the morning.
Land Rover..the ultimate all-terrain vehicle..
It’s not just the horses jumping on cross country day!! This little dog while having a big jump unfortunately didn’t have a good judge of take-off and kept landing on the jumps. Points for looking cute while trying though!
The Elephant Trap – this is a big jump! But it seemed to ride quite nicely.
Another Olympic jump, this one in Discovery Valley
The Dairy Mounds also caught quite a few riders out with these narrow fences on the top of the aptly named mounds.
The famous Burghley Ditch! This is massive and I’ve heard that a lot of riders avoid walking right up to it when walking the course because it can be quite intimidating. We saw a number of riders choose the long route at this one.
The infamous Capabilities Cutting…this photo doesn’t do it justice – those banks are really steep!
I love the detail in some of these jumps, this railway crossing even has a railway track running through the middle..
That’s a wrap!
Join me next time, until then keep riding
Jo
